Our Employee Highlight today features HR Manager, Debbie Johnson. Debbie has been with Excellance for 8 years and we decided it was a great time to ask her about her experiences this far.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do at Excellance.
Debbie: I am the Human Resources Manager for Excellance, Inc. I am a “HR Department of One”, so I do everything: employee relations, benefits management, recruiting, training, and a host of miscellaneous projects.
You recently celebrated your eight year anniversary at Excellance. What have you gained in that time?
Debbie: All of my other positions have been with government agencies or the public sector where the rules are cut-and-dried. This is my first position in the private sector where the rules aren’t quite so rigid, so I’ve had to learn to be a bit more flexible.

What advice do you have for prospective Excellance candidates?
Debbie: This is your one and only opportunity to make a good first impression, so always present yourself in the best possible light!
Before working at Excellance, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Debbie: I worked in the US Embassy in Egypt for two years, where I supervised about 75 Egyptian nationals. The work culture there is very different from the US!
Tell us about your best vacation?
Debbie: That’s a tough question, because I’ve visited many different countries and they’ve all been special in their own way. However, I am a big history buff, so I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the United Kingdom.
If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?
Debbie: Right now? Honestly, no one! I am happily enjoying life, especially my new role as a grandmother!
If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Debbie: Without a doubt, it would be lasagna! I love Italian food! And it’s got all of the food groups covered!
